How to Obtain the CCM
Obtain a degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field from a recognised institution. UWI (Mona and UTECH both offer engineering and built environment programmes recognised by CMAA).
Build at least 48 months (4 years) of construction management experience. Experience must demonstrate responsibilities across the CM Body of Knowledge: cost, time, quality, contract administration, safety, and risk management.
The CM Body of Knowledge (CM-BOK) is the primary study resource — covering all 7 CM functions: Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, Contract Administration, Safety Management, CM Professional Practice, and Programme Management. Study time typically ranges from 3–12 months alongside full-time work.
Complete the CMAA online application, documenting your education, experience, and competencies against the CM-BOK framework. Applications require reference letters from construction management supervisors or clients.
The CCM exam is a 200-question computer-based test available at Pearson VUE centres. The nearest test centres to Jamaica are typically in Miami or other US cities — plan accordingly. Some candidates travel to sit the exam.
CCM certification requires renewal every 3 years through verified continuing education credits. CMAA conferences, JIE (Jamaica Institution of Engineers) events, and international construction management CPD all qualify.
