How to Obtain the PMI-PBA
With a secondary (high school) degree: 4,500 hours of BA experience + 35 hours of BA education. With a bachelor’s degree or higher: 3,000 hours of BA experience + 35 hours of BA education. BA experience must be documented and verifiable — Jamaica’s financial sector, consulting, and IT project environments are all valid contexts.
Complete a recognised 35-hour BA training programme. PMI registered education providers (REPs) offer approved courses — many available online. IIBA chapter workshops, Coursera’s BA courses, and local IT training providers in Jamaica may offer qualifying programmes. Ensure the provider is PMI-recognised.
Complete the PMI-PBA application at pmi.org. Document your BA experience by project, listing hours and responsibilities for each engagement. Applications are subject to audit — maintain records of your experience. PMI membership reduces the exam fee significantly and is recommended for Jamaican candidates.
The PMI-PBA exam tests knowledge across 5 performance domains: Needs Assessment, Stakeholder Engagement, Elicitation, Analysis, Traceability & Monitoring, and Solution Evaluation.
