Top Employers Hiring CBAP Holders in Jamaica
How to Obtain Your CBAP — Step by Step
IIBA requires 7,500 hours of business analysis work experience accumulated within the last 10 years. Experience must span at least four of the six BABOK Knowledge Areas: Business Analysis Planning, Elicitation & Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis & Design, and Solution Evaluation. Begin documenting your hours using IIBA’s provided tracker as early as possible.
IIBA requires 35 hours of professional development aligned to the BABOK Knowledge Areas within the last 4 years. This can include IIBA-endorsed training courses, BA conference attendance, university courses in business analysis, or formal organisational training. Several Jamaican training providers offer IIBA-endorsed CBAP prep programmes.
IIBA requires two professional references from career managers, clients, or IIBA members who can verify your BA work experience. References are submitted online and IIBA may contact them as part of the application review. Choose references who can speak to your BABOK knowledge areas specifically.
Complete the online application at iiba.org, detailing your work experience hours by BABOK Knowledge Area, professional development activities, and reference details. IIBA reviews applications within 5–10 business days. A successful review generates an exam eligibility notice and your 3.5-hour exam scheduling window opens.
The CBAP exam is 120 scenario-based multiple-choice questions over 3.5 hours, administered at an approved testing centre or online proctored. The exam is heavily scenario-based, testing your ability to apply BABOK concepts to realistic business analysis situations. IIBA recommends at least 80–100 hours of dedicated study using BABOK v3, IIBA study guides, and practice question banks. Pass rates for first-time candidates typically range from 65–75%.
Maintaining Your CBAP — CDU Requirements
CBAP certification must be renewed every 3 years by earning 60 Continuing Development Units (CDUs). CDU activities include:
- Attending IIBA chapter events and conferences (including virtual formats)
- Completing additional BA training and professional development courses
- Volunteering with IIBA chapters or delivering BA training
- Publishing BA-related articles, papers, or books
- Completing university courses relevant to business analysis
- Mentoring other business analysts through formal programmes
Jamaica does not currently have a dedicated IIBA chapter, but Jamaican professionals frequently participate in the IIBA Caribbean chapter and access CDU activities through IIBA’s global online platform.
