CISSP — Certified Information Systems Security Professional
Widely regarded as the gold standard in cybersecurity certification worldwide — the CISSP from ISC² is in critical demand across Jamaica’s financial sector, government, and telecoms as organisations invest heavily in protecting digital infrastructure.
What Is the CISSP?
The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is an advanced-level cybersecurity certification awarded by ISC² (International Information System Security Certification Consortium). It is globally recognised as the pre-eminent credential for experienced security practitioners, managers, and executives responsible for designing, implementing, and managing an organisation’s information security programme.
The CISSP covers 8 security domains — from security and risk management to software development security — and requires candidates to demonstrate 5 years of cumulative paid experience in at least 2 of those domains before sitting the exam. In Jamaica, the certification is in acute demand: the Bank of Jamaica’s cybersecurity guidelines, rising incidents across the Caribbean, and major investments in digital government have made CISSP holders among the highest-paid IT professionals on the island.

How to Obtain the CISSP Certification
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CISSP holders must earn 120 CPE credits over a 3-year cycle to maintain certification. Credits are earned through ISC² events, security conferences (such as Caribbean Cyber Security conferences), webinars, formal training, and contributions to the profession — such as publishing articles or mentoring. The Caribbean region has an active ISC² chapter that organises local CPE events. An annual maintenance fee of USD $125 also applies. Staying current with the rapidly evolving threat landscape is both a professional obligation and a practical necessity for CISSP holders.
