How to Obtain Your REB Salesperson Licence

Meet Educational Prerequisites

CSEC English Language plus 2 other subjects at minimum Grade 3. This is the minimum requirement — no degree or professional background is necessary.

Enrol in the RETI Pre-Licensing Course

The Real Estate Training Institute (RETI) is Jamaica’s most recognised REB-approved training provider. The course runs approximately 3 months, covering real estate law, contracts, valuation basics, and professional ethics.

Complete the Pre-Licensing Course

Attend all required classes and complete coursework. Other REB-approved providers are also available if RETI’s schedule doesn’t suit you.

Apply to Sit the REB Licensing Examination

Submit your application and course completion certificate to the Real Estate Board. Examinations are held periodically throughout the year.

Pass the Written REB Examination

The exam tests knowledge of Jamaican real estate law, the Dealers and Developers Act, contracts, ethics, and basic valuation concepts.

Apply to the Real Estate Board for Your Licence

Submit your application form, examination pass certificate, registration fees, and character references to the REB. Your licence is issued upon approval.

Join a Licensed Real Estate Dealer / Broker

As a licensed salesperson, you must operate under a licensed dealer or broker. After 2 years, pursue the broker licence for independent practice or to open your own agency.

Renew Annually & Complete CPD

Annual REB registration renewal is mandatory. CPD is required for renewal — RETI workshops, JREA events, and REB-approved online courses all qualify.

CPD & Licence Renewal

The REB requires annual CPD for licence renewal. RETI offers CPD workshops throughout the year. Jamaica Real Estate Association (JREA) events count toward CPD hours, as do REB-approved online courses. Keeping your licence current is essential — practising without a valid REB licence is illegal under Jamaican law.
