How to Obtain Your CIA

Obtain a Bachelor’s Degree
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. UWI graduates are fully eligible. A master’s degree reduces the experience requirement from 24 to 12 months.

Gain 24 Months of Internal Audit Experience
You need 24 months of qualifying internal audit experience (or 12 months with a master’s degree). Experience in risk management, compliance, or external audit in a related capacity may also qualify.

Register with the IIA
Create an account and apply for CIA candidacy at theiia.org. Membership in the IIA Jamaica chapter is available and recommended — it provides access to study resources and CPD events.

Study and Pass All 3 CIA Exam Parts
Most candidates complete all 3 parts in 12–18 months. Each part is booked and sat independently via Pearson VUE. Official IIA study materials and practice questions are available through the IIA Learning Portal.

Submit Experience Verification
Have your supervisor or a CIA-certified colleague verify your qualifying experience. Submit the completed verification form to the IIA.

Maintain 40 CPE Hours Annually
