How to Obtain — Step by Step

Build Hospitality Experience
Aim for at least 2 years in hotel management or a relevant hospitality role covering key departments such as rooms, F&B, or operations.

Go to ahlei.org, purchase the CHA study guide, and register for the examination. AHLEI provides a full candidate handbook with exam blueprint.

Schedule the Computer-Based Exam
Available at approved AHLEI testing partners. The exam is 200 questions across all major hotel management domains and must be completed in 4 hours.

Pass the Exam
Study the AHLEI CHA reference texts thoroughly. Key areas include revenue management, human resources, financial management, marketing, and hotel law.

Recertify Every 5 Years
Complete 50 hours of approved continuing education within each 5-year cycle. JHTA events, AHLEI online courses, and hospitality conferences all count.
