Role Overview

The Food & Beverage (F&B) Manager is responsible for the financial performance, quality and service standards across all dining and drinking outlets at a hospitality property. In a large all-inclusive resort, this may mean managing multiple à la carte restaurants, buffet operations, bars and room service simultaneously. In a boutique hotel or standalone restaurant, the scope is more focused but the operational control is just as critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing restaurant, bar and room service operations
  • Setting and monitoring food and beverage cost targets
  • Hiring, training and scheduling F&B staff
  • Designing menus and seasonal promotions in collaboration with the chef
  • Maintaining health, hygiene and licensing compliance
  • Reviewing guest feedback and driving improvements

Qualifications & Path

A degree in Hospitality Management or Food Service Management is typical. WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) qualifications add significant value for beverage-heavy roles. Most F&B Managers have worked up from Restaurant Supervisor or Bar Manager level, typically with 5–10 years of experience.
