Role Overview
Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) work in hospital laboratories, standalone diagnostic labs and reference labs. They perform haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology and other analyses that underpin clinical diagnosis. In Jamaica, both private sector labs (e.g., MedLab, Caricord) and public hospitals employ MLTs.

Qualifications
A BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from UWI or UTech, or a CAPE/HEART qualification with supervised laboratory experience, is the standard entry route. Registration with the Caribbean Association of Medical Laboratory Professionals (CAMLP) is expected for senior roles. Specialist accreditation (ASCP) is valued in private reference labs.
