Scientific Officers (SOG/ST) work across government agencies including the Scientific Research Council, Bureau of Standards Jamaica, NEPA, Meteorological Service, Geological Survey Division and Ministry of Agriculture. The ten-grade series (ST 1–ST 10) spans Pay Bands 3–12 — the broadest range of any series — allowing entry with a science diploma and progression to Senior Principal Scientific Officer earning up to J$12.6M p.a.

Qualifications & Entry Requirements
- ST 1–2: Associate Degree or Diploma in a natural science; 5 CXC passes including Biology/Chemistry/Physics
- ST 3–5: BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, Physics, Agronomy or related
- ST 6–8: MSc in a relevant scientific discipline; PhD increasingly expected at ST 8+
- Professional registration relevant to specialisation (NEMA, BSJ accreditation)
- Laboratory safety certification (OSHA) valued
